Printzenskölds murdet

To the situation got critical to this winters.
Printzensköld threatened to collect the taxes forcibly, and there were symptoms that it could finally expect a substitute from sparing.
But the signals were put now in the two towns which were stove of the rebellion and in the adjacent Norre and Vester areas of jurisdiction.
As soon as the storm bells of the parish churches rang citizens and smallholders armed should assemble for the Ruts church and move to the fortress Hammershus from there.
The hour for the outbreak of the rebellion beat on December 8th, 1658 when Printzensköld rode from Hammershus about Hasle to Rønne to the lunchtime to select a lighter ready to sail here which should pick up the Swedish rider troop finally waiting in Ystad.

For the conspirators it depended to get Printzensköld in its control, where once outside the fortress it was and take to the Hammershus before the Swedish cavalry arrived on the island now.
And these courageous men were lucky on your side.
According to a fast consultation with Povl Ancher Jens Kofoed and three others rode after Printzensköld to Rønne. They met several other conspirators away in the Skule woods north of the Blykobbegård who followed them after a piece of short advice.
Toward four o'clock in the twilight falling early Printzensköld rode into the Storegade of Rønne and went to the court of mayor Peder Lavridsen Moller.
He had taken a seat just when the conspirators penetrated and tackled him to the room. Despite a firm resistance it had to surrender to the superior strength and was led to the street as a prisoner.
The schicksalsentscheidende shot which deadly stretched the Schwedenoberst to the earth was fired on the way to the detention cell of the city hall in that place before the state school which, today, still is indicated by a couple of fieldstones in the asphalt.

The marksman was a young citizen of Rønne, Villum Clausen Kelov, and his brother-in-law, Jens Kofoed, and another leader of the coup immediately kicked there and gave the killed enemy one shot each to show that they stuck by the perpetrator steadfastly.
Printzensköld had wanted to escape, is uncertain whether, but the leaders have had hardly the intention to shoot at an unarmed prisoner and not to force handing over from Hammershus already therefore at all on Printzensköld which had in all probability been supposed to serve as a hostage.
On the other hand the murder made the situation clear, however: It was not giving any way back now. All other Swedes in Rønne were taken in custody and the corpse of the colonel was taken to the city hall, where a funeral befitting social standing was ordered later.
